Calculate your lean body mass (muscle, bone, organs — everything except fat) using the Boer formula.
Lean body mass is your total body weight minus fat mass, including muscle, bone, organs, and water.
This tool uses the Boer formula: for men, LBM equals 0.407 times weight in kg plus 0.267 times height in cm minus 19.2. For women, LBM equals 0.252 times weight plus 0.473 times height minus 48.3.
Select your gender and enter your height and weight, then click Calculate to see your estimated lean body mass and fat mass.
Example: A 70kg, 175cm male has an estimated lean body mass of around 58kg, meaning approximately 12kg is fat mass.
Why is lean mass important. It is often used to calculate protein needs and calorie requirements more accurately than total body weight alone.
Is this the same as muscle mass. Not exactly, lean mass includes muscle plus bone, organs, and water, not muscle alone.
