The calculator instantly shows your marks gained, marks deducted, net score and percentage.

What is Negative Marking?

Negative marking is a scoring rule used in many competitive exams where marks are deducted for wrong answers, to discourage random guessing. For example, if an exam deducts ¼ mark for every wrong answer, then 4 wrong answers cancel out 1 full mark gained from a correct answer.

Negative Marking Ratios in Popular Exams

ExamCorrectWrongRatio
NEET+4−1¼
JEE Main+4−1¼
CAT+3−1
SSC CGL+2−0.5¼
Bank PO/Clerk+1−0.25¼
UPSC Prelims+2−0.66

Always confirm the exact negative marking rule from your exam's official notification — rules vary by year and exam body.

Formula

Marks Gained = Correct Answers × Marks per Correct

Marks Deducted = Wrong Answers × (Marks per Correct × Negative Ratio)

Net Score = Marks Gained − Marks Deducted
