What is MGNREGA?

MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is a Government of India social welfare scheme that guarantees 100 days of wage employment per financial year to adult members of rural households who demand unskilled manual work.

• Guaranteed 100 days of employment per household per year
• Work must be provided within 15 days of application
• If work is not provided, unemployment allowance must be paid
• At least one-third of beneficiaries must be women
• Wages are paid directly to bank/post office accounts

Wage Rates

MGNREGA wage rates are notified by the central government and vary by state. Rates are revised annually based on the Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers (CPI-AL). The rates shown are for FY 2024-25.
